So the word of God continued to spread. The number of the disciples multiplied greatly…Acts 6:7 BSB
We probably have in our hand more computing power than was available in all the space machines used to achieve the first lunar landing. Via our mobile smartphones, we have access at every moment to vast reservoirs of information on every subject we can think of. A short word search yields hundreds of opinions and answers to any question we ask.
We also have dozens of Bible apps, teaching, and commentary available anywhere we go.
But does the word of God continue to spread, as in our opening verse? Does is grow and multiply, like in Acts 12:24: But the word of God grew and multiplied.?
In the early days of the church, the Good News spread person-to-person like wildfire: So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed (Acts 19:20). Wherever the gospel was preached, multitudes embraced it, and were added to the church by it.
Why not now? Why not even more so, given all the communication technology available?
Sure, there are lots of possible reasons we could list and discuss, and there’s plenty of blame to go around. We could debate all the things we should do, or could do.
But there is at least one thing we must do: let us pray it will happen also in our day—
Lord, today in our place and time, we ask may the Word of the Lord spread rapidly across our land, prevailing against lies and deception, and may the number of new believers increase.
Let the Word – the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ go out from coast to coast and every where in between; may it be proclaimed far and wide and right next door. We ask the for the declaration of the Truth of Jesus be spoken and be heard, and may the result be many conversions from darkness to Christ.
We are praying for revival to sweep across our nation - that is a return to the Lord and Your ways, as more and more hear the words “repent and believe the gospel.”
Amen
A revival in the land starts with a revival in children of God, which starts with a revival of intercession for Gospel preaching, growing and prevailing
Whether or not things get better or worse in our nation, Christians are called to remain steadfast in faith, proclaim the Gospel and to be salt and light to the world trapped in darkness, making an impact with love and grace.
To do this, we must be in prayer. We need a revival of praying!
The Apostle Paul, writing to the Colossians exhorts them, (and us) to continue steadfastly in prayer, and to pray also for him, that God would open a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ. May we make this a prayer for ourselves and each other—for an open door for the Word to increase.
Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. - 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2 ESV
What we most need in all the land is the Gospel. If there were millions of souls set free from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of Christ, then this whole land could be transformed.
And so, as we pray for the increase of the Word, we pray for doors of opportunity to be opened to share the Gospel, doors for preaching and teaching, doors to hearts and minds of those around us.
To paraphrase A.W. Tozer, if we do not pray we cede ground to the enemy. Revival does not come otherwise; the spread of the Word, the Good News, the Gospel does not increase without it; workers are not sent to the ripe fields unless we ask.
Will you and I be among those who seek the Lord of the harvest?
Until Thursday, grace and peace…
