A Revival Of Praying
We have ceded ground to the enemy, but there is one thing we can do and do more
There is a battlefield in America today. It is in our government, our schools, our neighborhoods, and in some cases our very homes. For decades now, the enemy has held these battlefields uncontested, but that is beginning to change. Christians are beginning to wake up to the depth of corruption that has infiltrated our society and its institutions, and we are beginning to take back lost ground.
The battle will not be for the faint of heart. A. W. Tozer, a 20th-century preacher and prophet, saw it coming. In his classic work Faith Beyond Reason, he made this observation: “Perhaps worst of all is the fact that our failures in prayer leave the enemy in possession of the field. The worst part about the failure of a military drive is not the loss of men or the loss of face but the fact that the enemy is left in possession of the field. In the spiritual sense, this is both a tragedy and a disaster. The devil ought to be on the run, always fighting a rear guard action. Instead, this blasphemous enemy smugly and scornfully holds his position, and the people of God let him have it. No wonder the work of the Lord is greatly retarded. Little wonder the work of God stands still!”
Tozer rightly realized that the failure to pray is what leaves the enemy in control of the battlefield.

We contend that our country is under the righteous judgement of the Almighty because in many ways and areas, we have collectively turned our back to Him, shaken our fist under His nose and defied, disobeyed and denied His rule. More and more of the Church has participated in this, and thus, God has—at least in part, withdrawn His grace upon us.
The myriad of problems we endure today are the inevitable result of sin running it’s course and manifesting it’s evil result through entertainment and politics, education and business, as well as the social and criminal unrest we see in the headlines daily.
Whether or not things get better or worse in our nation, Christians are called to remain steadfast in faith, proclaim the Gospel and to be salt and light to the world trapped in darkness, making an impact with love and grace.
To do this, we must be in prayer. We believe the primary activity lovers of Jesus should be engaged in is prayer. Prayer will solve what politics will never do. By bringing the Almighty in to each situation, we invite His kingdom, His will, His plan and power which rules the universe and all His creation.
Our neglect of this command to pray and preach the good news of salvation for sinners is largely responsible for us losing the battlefield. Tozer is absolutely correct, and we must mount an offensive—a prayer offensive, and shut in to the prayer closet, not as warriors, but as humble pleaders before the throne of grace.
We have ceded ground to the enemy of our souls, but there is one thing we can do.
Wilt thou heed the call?
May the Lord grant to us a revival of praying!

If, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words (to describe the picture), then this quote is worth a thousand word article in one sentence:
Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?
