Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. Acts 6:7
But the word of God grew and multiplied. Acts 12:24
So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed. Acts 19:20
In the early days of the Church, evangelism ministry was happening, that is the followers of Jesus were telling others about Him. As a result, persecution came to the disciples and they were forced to flee Jerusalem for safety - taking the Gospel with them!
The Good News of Jesus was spreading among not only the Jews but also the Greeks, and many came to believe.
And according to these passages, three things were happening:
Spreading - the Gospel message was told and heard
Growing - there was increase, it become greater
Multiplying - more came to believe the Gospel
Difficulty comes in different forms in our day, but the Lord continues to expand His kingdom through ordinary people like us. Unbelievers still hear this good news, that we are sinners and need a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, who died in our place, taking our just punishment and in exchange gives us eternal life with him.
The three passages above are prayers for revival, and we pray these asking the Lord for the Word to spread again across the lands and into the ears and hearts of the unconverted, resulting in new believers who ask the Lord for mercy and give their lives over to Him.
To that we can add Acts 14:27 - they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.
Pray for the Lord to open doors! For the Word to be heard!
And more to come to Jesus in repentance and belief in the Gospel.
Pray these for your church and for all the congregations in your town, for your household and households of your neighbors, for yourself and other individuals.
Until Monday, grace and peace
