Making Today Declaration of Dependence Day
Celebrating freedom by returning to the Lord in prayers of dependence; Interceding for the nation on July 4th
On July 4th, 1776 the Second Continental Congress ratified the Declaration of Independence, which established the Untied States of America.
This is what we celebrate today. Independence from British rule and freedom to be our own sovereign nation.
We’ve been independent ever since, but it seems we’ve lost view of our dependency upon Almighty God. Many have turned their backs to Him and prefer to run their own lives—and run their country—apart from Him.
In the song Declaration of Dependence, Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman reminds us of our need for a higher power. He’s singing of persons and not nations, but the larger principal is the same: we are a people totally relying on the Ruler of All.
We should act like it.
This is my declaration of dependence
This is my declaration of my need
This is my declaration of dependence
On the one who gave His life to me
This Independence Day weekend, we’d encourage you to renew your own Declaration of Dependence upon our Sovereign Lord, maker of heaven and earth, the one who removes kings and sets up kings (Daniel 2:21).
And pray for our nation to return to the Lord. We will perish if we do not!

Until next time, grace and peace…
