Faith is a big component of effectual prayer. Faith in what, or whom? As believers in Christ, then our faith is in Him. We do not have faith in faith, itself, but faith in the One who is faithful.
To be faithful is to ascribe a quality or attribute to God, it is one of the characteristics of His very nature. He is constant, unchangeable, and worthy of trust. "Therefore know that the LORD your God, He [is] God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; (Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV) He proves Himself time and again in His word in dealing with His people.
Therefore, we can put our confident trust in Him. Faith is being certain something is true, and therefore worthy of trust. We, as children of Almighty God, believe the promises (in His Word) because we believe in the Promiser. We can count on the promise made by the one who made the promise, because He is faithful and true.
By faith Noah built an ark. By faith Abraham believed God would provide the lamb for the sacrifice. By faith Hannah prayed for a son. By faith David struck down Goliath. By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. (Hebrews 11:11 ESV)
For us, to pray with Faith is to put our confident trust in the Lord Jesus, in His Name, and His Word. And behold, a leper came to Him and was bowing down before Him, and said, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." (Matthew 8:2 LSB)
If you are willing to do this thing, you are well able to do it. This is but one example of faith, which is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. Ps 16:1
O my God, I trust in You, Ps 25:2
In You, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in Your righteousness. Ps 31:1
So we too may—and must, approach the Lord in prayer in like faith, believing and not doubting, as James says, or we will be double-minded and unstable. No, let us stand with full assurance in the Promiser and His Promise. When we ask of Him according to His Word—His written testimony (covenant), we can be fully assured that He will execute His will, and act on His stated promises. The great I AM has pledged Himself to His word, to keep it and we can stand on that solid rock.
How are we as intercessors able to obtain the thing prayed for? By faith in God. We Trust, Ask, and Believe: trust His word, ask His word, and believe He will act according to it.
Faith does the impossible because it brings God to undertake for us, and nothing is impossible with God. E. M. Bounds
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. - Mark 11:24 ESV
Praying for the People of God from the Word of God
Father, we are in prayers today for those in the sheepfold of Christ, that we would be strong in You, Lord and in the strength of Your might. Let us put on all Your armor O God, to be able to stand against the schemes of the devil and that we may be able to withstand in the evil day. Fit us then, in your holy armor, O Lord. Amen.
O Lord of Hosts, we pray for all disciples of Jesus. Our Savior tells us that we know how to give good gifts to our children who ask, but "how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” O, Almighty Father, we ask You as Jesus told us to, give to us this good gift! For His sake, Amen
Lord God Almighty we are praying today for our brothers and sisters in the Lord...that we would stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. We ask you keep us from being snared or bewitched in a false gospel, or adrift with every wave of doctrine, but stand firm on the Rock of Jesus. Amen
